Story 1: Ester & Erik - Where it all began

Celebrating 25 Years of Introducing International Design to Australia and New Zealand.

To commemorate 25 years of bringing international design to Australia and New Zealand, we begin our celebration with a brand that has been with us since the very beginning - Ester and Erik.

Ester and Erik joined DMI in 2001, the same year our company was founded by Earle and Craig McCredie. That year also marked a new chapter for the Danish candle maker, as Søren Møller took over the family business from his parents, Ester and Erik. Two family stories, both rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and enduring relationships, began a shared journey that continues to this day.

Founded in 1987 by Ester and Erik Møller, the company was born from a love of candles, craftsmanship and quality - symbolised by the heart in their logo.

Erik's inventive spirit led to the creation of the hand-dipping machine still used in production today, while Ester's meticulous eye ensured every candle met the highest standards of finish and colour. Together, they built a brand defined by devotion to details and a belief that a candle should bring warmth, joy, and life to any space.

When Søren Møller assumed leadership in 2001, he carried forward his parents' vision while embracing innovation. Under his guidance, Ester and Erik became the first candle manufacturer in Denmark to introduce robotics for wicking, combining tradition with modern precision. Yet the essence of the brand remains unchanged - every candle is still hand-dipped, made in Denmark, and crafted with the same care that defined its beginnings.

Among their most iconic creations is the Cone Candle - a design that perfectly embodies the brand's philosophy of simplicity, versatility, and beauty. Originally conceived as a Christmas candle for festive wreaths, it soon became a year-round interior essential. Its self-standing form requires no holder, allowing it to sit on any surface - from marble to raw timber - and making it as practical as it is sculptural.

Each cone candle is made from 100% pure, fragrance free paraffin wax sourced from Europe's leading producer, with a 100% cotton wick.

Available in two heights - 25 cm with a 13-hour burn time and 37 cm with a 25-hour burn time - the candle is self-extinguishing, ensuring both safety and serenity.

Perhaps most distinctive of all is Ester and Erik's extraordinary colour range. With around 100 meticulously developed shades, each hand-dipped to achieve a flawless finish, the palette has become a hallmark of the brand. From soft neutrals to deep, saturated tones, each colour reflects the same dedication to craftsmanship and design integrity that defines the company's ethos.

For DMI, Ester and Erik represents more than a brand partnership - it is a reflection of shared values and parallel histories. Both family-founded, both guided by a commitment to quality and authenticity, and both sustained by relationships built on trust and respect.

In celebration of DMI's 25th anniversary, the enduring partnership with Ester and Erik stands as a symbol of where it all began - with craftsmanship, family, and a belief in the beauty of thoughtful design.

It is in this spirit of legacy and gratitude that we honour our own foundations.

In loving memory of Earle McCredie.
